When I was a child I was forced to listen to whatever my parents had on the radio. The station was always tuned into the oldies. I still love listening to the oldies station, because I feel that the songs were so easy to listen to. One of my favorite songs, that I still hear today on the '60's station is Gene Pitney's "Town Without Pity." I always loved the sway of the song, as if the record were warped while it was playing. I was saddened today to see that Gene Pitney had died in a UK hotel at the age of 65. He was found in his hotel bedroom after last night's performance, where he received a standing ovation. It's weird that all of these influences I had as a child seem to get older and older and are dying off at much more rapid rate. There are only two Beatles left, yet there are 4 Rolling Stones. I believe there are no Ramones left. Ok, it's probably more weird for my mother. It's just a shame we all have to get old.
